  • Austin Spence, postdoctoral scholar at UC Davis, captures birds on-site for close viewing using mist-nets while discussing birds on farms.

8:15 am - 8:25 am Welcome from Jo Ann Baumgartner, Wild Farm Alliance

8:25 am - 9:15 am

  • Kelly Mulville and Greg Richardson, Paicines Ranch, will lead a walk in the vineyard to showcase on-farm practices promoting biodiversity, as well as the planning and vision for the ranch into the future.

9:30 am - 11:00 am (rotating sessions)

  • Jo Ann Baumgartner and Nick Filannino, Wild Farm Alliance, will demonstrate installation of bird boxes and discuss the pest control services offered by beneficial birds. 
  • Tommy Fenster, PhD Student with UC Davis and the Ecdysis Foundation, and Kelly Mulville will demonstrate the linkage between livestock with regenerative cropping systems. 
  • Sam Earnshaw, Hedgerows Unlimited, and Greg Richardson will showcase aspects of conservation plantings and demonstrate key aspects of installation. 

11:00 am - 11:30 am   Snack Break

11:30 am - 1:00pm

  • Houston Wilson, UC Riverside, will discuss practical and cost-effective pest management strategies for vineyards.
  • Elissa Olimpi, Virginia Tech, will cover how bats provide pest control and how to promote them on farms. 
  • Jenny Garley, New Age Laboratories and Agronomical Services, will provide a brief overview of what plant sap analysis is, nutrient mobility and how it pertains to plant health, pests and diseases.

Start/end time? Workshop hours are 8:00am - 2:00pm (with an optional mist netting demonstration at 7:00am). Check-in starts at 6:30am.

Is lunch included? Yes! Your workshop ticket includes a delicious and locally-sourced lunch prepared by Paicines Chef Carlos & team.

Do you have scholarships? Yes! We understand that some folks may need additional support to attend. If so, please use the sliding scale donation option to pay what you can.
