We just wanted to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who submitted comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding the proposed rules of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)! FDA received over 16,000 comments on the proposed FSMA Produce Rule, the bulk of which came from concerned farmers, consumers and advocates. Your hard work will help the FDA understand that biodiversity and on-farm conservation practices are integral parts of farming systems that help protect soil, water, and wildlife habitat.
Wild Farm Alliance submitted its comments to FDA the final week of the FSMA comment period, including comments on: conservation in the proposed Produce Rule, soil amendments in the proposed Produce Rule, and other issues in both the Produce and the Preventative Control Rules.
While the public comment period for the proposed FSMA Produce and Preventative Control Rules ended on November 22ed, our work has just begun. FDA is currently reviewing the thousands of comments it received. Now we need to make sure that it fixes the rules so that they support biodiversity and on-farm conservation, instead of incentivizing habitat destruction and synthetic chemical fertilizer use. Over the coming months WFA will work with its partners to do just that. We will keep you updated as the rulemaking process continues and let you know if and when we need to raise our voices in unison again to ensure our message is heard!
Thank you for all that you do to support conservation-based agriculture that protects and restores wild Nature!
