Deep in the heart of California’s Central Valley, lying in the dry parched soils of the former Tulare Lake, there is a farm.

The farmers are helping to revitalize the town of Allensworth, the first town in California established by African Americans. They are creating healthy soil, sequestering carbon and providing habitat.

Four generations of the Serrano family have farmed in Le Grand, California and clearly care deeply about their land.

Christine and Michael grew up on their family farm helping their parents with weeding and other farm work. They are now helping their father adopt sustainable practices on the farm.

Frank Olagaray is bringing nature back to his farm with over 2 miles of hedgerows and 40 Barn Owl boxes.

Several years ago, he planted his first hedgerows to attract pollinators and beneficial insects to his farm. Frank believes in biodiversity and continues to cultivate it on his farm.

The corridors provide important connectivity to resources and natural habitat and safe refuge for wildlife.

The 5-7 miles of hedgerows they planted are reducing their need for pesticides with natural pest control. Emily loves to see the incredible numbers of birds and wildlife on the ranch that are accessing the habitat.
