Question:

Aren't birds pests? Why would I want them on my farm?

Answer:

  • The overwhelming majority of songbirds feed their chicks insects during the nesting season. They can provide farms valuable pest control services.
  • A very few of these species cause farmers problems later when crops are ready to harvest.
  • Just like insects, we can't lump the beneficial birds with the pest birds.
  • See our resources below for ways to support beneficial birds and mange pest birds.
