- Registration Opens
- (Optional) Nick Filannino and Jo Ann Baumgartner of WFA and Sam Earnshaw of Hedgerow Unlimited will lead a walk around the farm showing how to identify beneficial birds and native plants.
9:00 am - 12:30 pm
- Tom Broz, owner of Live Earth Farm, will highlight aspects of his farm and discuss his farming philosophy.
- Jo Ann Baumgartner will cover the pest control benefits of cavity nesting birds and how to attract them with nest boxes for increasing insect and rodent pest control.
- Brian Fagundes of WFA will share how to support beneficial birds with native plants that they prefer.
- Richard Smith, Monterey County Farm Advisor, will share how grass cover crops are protecting water quality.
- Sam Earnshaw will discuss benefits, techniques and issues with installing farm conservation plantings.
- Joji Muramoto, UCCE Organic Production Specialist, will speak about the projected climate change impacts on California organic farms, and how to prevent soilborne diseases in organic strawberries.
- Sacha Lozano, RCD of Santa Cruz County, will discuss irrigation systems that reduce greenhouse gases and save water on the farm.
